Have been playing with my new Xperia SP for the last two weeks and I like it very much. Still there are plenty of things that can be improved. Below I will make a list of things I think need some attention from the Sony Xperia developers.
Stamina mode:
- Easy to access on/off button (in the Quick settings widget?)
- Support to enable/disable the notification bar
Notification bar/light effects:
- Add support for Facebook and Whatsapp in the menu or even better, create an option to add apps here yourself.
- Option to be enabled/disabled with Stamina mode on
Brightness
- Make the auto mode use the full range of brightness or create a minimum/maximum slider in which range the auto mode will work.
Storage
- Make it possible to install apps on external SD
Walkman app
- Setting to add folders you want to be displayed instead of auto searching all storage.
- Stop playback of an album/playlist (having it revert to nothing instead of only pausing the current)
- Setting to determine which MP3 id fields are used to make it belong to an album. Now only the title isnt sufficient.
Carmode app
- Add GPS on/off toggler icon (seperate or under the settings icon)
- Add Bluetooth on/off toggler icon (seperate or under the settings icon, current one leads to the bluetooth settings which is an additional step)
- Create the option to show the custom app logo in black and white instead of color to match the look of the Carmode app. Or... create a set of icons to choose out.
- Create a setting to auto enable/disable bluetooth and/or GPS on startup
Voice dialer (probably a job for Google but....)
- Add support for other languages, currently only english is supported?
Smart Connect
- Make it possible to select an app as trigger event.
For example:
- Start navigation app and enable bluetooth and GPS, disable them when the app is closed
- When starting Walkman app enable bluetooth so it pairs with wireless headphones
- Allow more apps/shortcuts to be started. This way the trigger Car can start carmode and navigation and ofcourse there are more situations in which it can be desirable to be able to autostart more apps/shortcuts.
- Add Stamina mode enable/disable as option
- Add GPS enable/disable as option !!!
Wifi
- Increase wifi range. I've noticed wifi looses connection easier than my Galaxy Gio did in the same situation
Calendar
- Different colors for each calendar. I share my calendar with my wife and both have a different color in Google Calendar but not in the Sony Calendar app. This makes it hard to identify which appointment belongs to who.... Samsung shows it.... Sony should as well.
Camera
- Improve image quality. Less agressive compression maybe?
In general I love my new (and first) Sony, I think its great. Hopefully these points can be improved/solved turning the great into AWESOME!
Thanks in advance for your effort and response.
Edwin
P.S. Maybe use this topic as general topic for improvement suggestions?
P.S.2 Is there a site where I can keep track on which firmware is available for the Xperia SP and which changes has been made on each firmware?
I totally agree with almost every point in Edwink's post.
Although I have an Xperia Z that misses the colored bar, other features correspond to my experiences.
A "must have" to me, which is severely impacting the satisfaction with the current Xperia models, is the Camera Quality.
Please Sony, 2 MB average image size for a 13 mp ( Xperia Z ) or 8 mp ( Xperia SP ) is ridiculous! Competitors who also use your sensors achieve much, much better quality with it.
To get colour calendars install the google calendar app from the play store
Thats what I call a workaround, not a solution
Thanks nevertheless. Hopefully Sony will at least confirm they have read this topic and that they are working on some solutions.
Is Sony even reading this stuff?
Yes we do and I thank you for posting your feedback. I will pass it on internally.
i am feeling the same as you man on most of these issues. The two worst and most important problems i have came across is the terrible wifi range and the storage!
wifi range is pathetic for this smart phone, i think its to do with the aluminium chassis around the phone but I hope not and hope it can be solved in the next firmware update but I doubt that as the c3502 has already got the newest update and Iv'e heard nothing about wifi improvements there which is sad and dissapointing. (that's if the c5303 sp gets the same 12.0.A.1.284 update)
The internal storage is way too low for this day of age and it just doesn't help the fact that google has taken away the apps to sd feature in jelly bean. I'm hoping sony might fix this problem in house and add a feature into its new phones like the Z and the sp to be able to move the data on to at present a useless sd card. The phone is great other than these issues but sadly i may end up having to sell this phone and get something better as I don't see sony taking the time to fix these issues on a non flagship device. Shame that this device has so much potential but not enough firmware support as of yet!
Johan,
That would be greatly appreciated if you did pass this on as there are a lot of unanswered cries out there at the moment with regards to this device. These problems need to be adressed and fixed immedietly!
Agree with the camera crticism. Lens seems good, sensor OK, but don't appreciate the pumped up sharpness, colour and contrast. And the heavy compression. For a company who make some very decent cameras it's a bit of an embarrassment. Movies are good, though.
Can we have a bit higher max volume via headphones, please. I'm not asking earsplitting, just enough to drown out background railway noise would be nice. And allow the equaliser to go on working even as you approach max volume. I believe these are both firmware limitations rather than hardware. Used to have an HTC HD, and that was way better in both respects.
Yes, me too request the developers to take this improvements in further firmware release, i really sony android firmware, so i hope you people fix all those thing mentioned above,
what i really want to fix / improvements in future firmware releases,
Storage :
the storage is biggest worry thing for us, the user available space 5.x GB space is not enough for gaming,
if i install 2 larger games like vice city and NFS, it get bottle necked,
So if i get any option to move my apps to SD card means, i will get really happy,
Camera Quality
What i have noticed is, when i see your product page, the images you have given is very attractive and eye catchy, but the real camera clarity is poor, i never going to compare with other products to sony, but now galaxy s3 camera is more clarity and faster than xperia SP, but even though xperia SP have more features on its camera, i really love Sony mobiles, But i looking for some minor fixes in cameras clarity and speed,
abnormal heating while gaming
I feel very heat while high end gaming's, it is very abnormal, i scared and removed my back cover and put near to my Air conditioner, eventhough i not exceeded 10 mins of gameplay,
normal games works asusual like subway surfers, temple run, fruit ninja,
Video call for 3G
this is the biggest disappointment for me and all Xperia SP users, i readed in some thread that android phones doesnt have video call feature, so please developers, i dint want to mention those devices, those android phones supports video calling feature,
i hope the android 4.2.2 firmware update should fix all those things..
Wi-Fi Range
Please make separate options to enhance the wifi range, my older xperia devices such works with my wifi nice, but Xperia SP needs to enhance their range
NFC file transfer,
Actually i love NFC file transfer, But the bluetooth file transfers make very slow communication, So please make Android Beam with wifi file transfer between Xperia devices,
Dear sony developers, if my reply is hard, i apologize, i love Sony products, in my home we own 95 % of Sony electronics products only, But some flaws in xperia devices make me feel bad, thats why am suggesting these things what we ( users ) feel,
