Connect to WPA2-EAP ent wifi networks is not working. Any solutions?
Before SE writes you some standard crap like "Just click on the network and hit connect", IT IS NOT POSSIBLE ATM. Android is not the problem, SE just didn't unlock all the required WPA2-EAP settings on the X10 (like TTLS).
And by the way, the new update doesn't fix this. So I still have to pay 25€/month for mobile internet becaus I cannot connect to my university wlan either.
Finally, YES there is an update, but it seems as SE doesn't know anything about it. Very mysterious...
Let me second this complaint: it's just ridiculous that SE took the effort to downgrade X10 to make it virtually unusable to hundreds of thousands university students.
Let me just copy my words from the product blog:
I also received the R2BA023 update today and I have to say that I am very annoyed that there is still no official possibility to connect to WPA2-TTLS or -PEAP networks (like the ones at several hundred universities all over the world: http://www.eduroam.org).
I could root my phone which would allow me to manually edit the necessary files (comment 10: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386) but I really don’t get why this problem in Android 1.6’s user interface can not be resolved in three months time (if there were deeper, technical reasons, the method in the link could never work as it only sets some parameters that you would normally set in the dropdown menus).
BTW:
Some other manufacturer obviously cared about this (http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/network/wireless/services/eduroam/android/ –> picture 7 is the decisive difference, on the X10, you only get the choice of TLS)
Regards
Actually, I have to defend SE in this regard - they did not actively turn these choices off.
In regular Android 1.6, everything is implemented, but the UI does not allow these choices. So SE failed to turn these choices on but they did not turn them off.
It is extremely annoying to not be able to use wifi at school. Anyone with HTC, Nokia and Iphone can use it, but not SE.
SE please fix this.
Xperia X10 mini pro ...
Ouch, I thought I was dumb, but having seen this posting, I knew I was not dumb, not a chance!!!
I have the same problem at work. Just implemented WiFi, and I can't even hop on to the dang network because there isn't any WPA2-EAP Enterprise...I think Sony Ericsson was just in a hurry to release this "beautiful" looking phone without enough testing and piloting!
Please Sony Ericsson (or whoever is supposed to help), help us out! The technology band wagon is leaving us!
Can someone from SonyEricsson pleas reply to this thread? It is from Jun 25, 2010. And no response from SE...
No response from email-support either
Xperia X10 mini pro
The absence of PEAP for connecting to services such as eduroam spoils what is otherwise a very nice package for me in the X10 mini. Plz fix, SE
Yeah that's Sony Ericsson. No Customer Relationship at all.
And because SE doesn't seem to change, all we can do is change the brand and never buy SE again.
