How can I install Google Search by Voice on my Xperia X10?

I tried searching the Android Market for this, but no luck. I've also tried sending a text from the Google site, but clicking on the link, after I received the text, just gave an error message.

Any ideas?

On mine, X10 large, if you long press and select Widget then scroll through and select Search (with the google G next to it) and put it on yuor home screen then that has a microphone on it and you just press and say what you want to look for.  This was on my phone as standard... I haven't downloaded anything to do with it as far as I know.  I am in the UK so maybe its a country specific thing??

I have the Google search box (the one line thing across the width of the screen) on mine, in Canada, and it doesn't have a microphone, so you might well be right about it being country-specific.

I miss England.  Not just because of Google searching by voice!

I notice, too, that if I go to Manage Applications, I have 'Google Search' as well as 'Google Search (Enhanced)'.  Is this the same as yours?

I have both, but the enhanced has data in whereas the other doesn't.

Just a thought, do you have the HTC_IME keyboard cos that gave me voice capability so I wonder if it appeared when I installed that? Hmmm, curious.

Yes, my enhanced Google search is the only one with data in it.

I don't have the HTC-IME keyboard.  It doesn't seem to be in the market, unless it's under a different name.

OMG Sushi you have been missing out (imho) you have to download it to your PC from Gimpsta's site found via XDA Developers.  Once you have it, unzip it and then copy it across to your phone.  Then go to your SD card wherever you saved it (I made a file called HTC) and then tap on it and it gives you the option to install the application.

You basically can pick the font on your keys/the colour of the background, keys, function keys, whether you want a picture on your space bar.  Its brilliant to type on and also gives you the old style number keypad and T9, which I still used depending on how I am feeling.

If you do get it, it will be interesting to see if it then gives you that little mike next to the google search box.

I need to pop out soon, but I'll try that later, if I can.  I'm not very good at technical things, but I'll do what I can in the light of your instructions, which appear to be clear, even to me...!  Thank you.

It's evening here so I will be on and off here so give me a shout later if you run into probs. Its one of the first things I did when I got the phone, so if I could do it as a noobie I'm sure you will be fine!  (you have got a file manager?).

A file manager?  Erm, I don't know.  What does it look like...?

I have registered with the XDA forum now, but also seem to need to register with something else, so I'll do that bit later.
