Help! with message screen

I have just got an X10 and find the messages - white writing on light blue background almost impossible to read. How do I change the text and background colours.?

You can't change the stock applications but you can things like email and texting.  For texting I use Handcent SMS which is hugely customisable and for email I use K-9 email, which allows you to select a light (white background black writing) or dark (black with white).

Hi. Thanks to Suze for introducing me to Handcent SMS, and this is the only text programme I use. But I have tried using the messaging service that came with the phone and there is black writing on a white background on this.
