Hello all knowledable SE community..
Trying to use my google maps in car cradle connected to working USB charger I have noticed some issues, wonder if anyone else has same or can comment on these:
* I want the display to stay on not to time-out into stand-by mode for obvious reasons whilst driving. In menu settings->applications->development->stay awake, this option allows to stay awake whilst charging. This is all fine whilst the x10 is charging but if the battery happens to be at 100% it stops charging and goes into stand-by... Is there a menu item I'm missing somewhere else that allows me to keep the x10 awake???
*In direction navigation mode - i.e. navigating me to programmed destination with voice guidance function, I notice the battery juice dissappears at a worrying rate. Even using the original USB lead to keep the thing charging, GPS navigation can eat 10-20% of battery in an hours driving!
Thanks in advance
No shock at all..
About 75% of all X10 phones do this!
And 90% of the ppl here will tell you you are lying or it's normal for the x10 to do this.
IF you ask me it's BS!
In your Setting Menu find Sound and Display and change the Screen Timeout. The max you can increase it to is 30 mins but should help a bit.
GPS does eat the battery, I noticed that when using it and makes the battery pretty warm. I think you are doing the best thing, charging as you go and hope that it will last your journey.
Good way to aid a guess ! YOU ARE NOT X10 USER ! Please GO, GO Away.
Keep in mind you are using a 4" screen on all the time and it is enough to waste your battery easily if set at high brightness... Actually I'm pretty sure that even when GPS antenna will eat some battery, the relevant eater is still the screen. Then if you have all others wireless data services enabled, well, what more are you expecting from battery?? About your timeout issue, I really don't know because I'm using RMAPS, a free app that allow both google maps and user defined maps previously downloaded to SD memory stick in a off-line mode(NO data traffic and no adds). Such app allow to choose "stays on" to the screen within its settings, then problem is solved. There are tons of apps for gps mapping or guidance, most of them allow this option so.... enjoy discovering what app is the best for you.
Oh you mean the badly built charging cuircut that can't keep the phone battery at a floating level while supplying the device with juice...
I believe that Sony was the first to make and use of lithium-ion batteries and that out of a billion mobile devices in the world this one just can't do that and resualts in a huge heat build up as the battery suffers to keep up.
The one component in the x10 that causes all the restarts and overheating.
I rest my case.
Never got just one of such issue, surely you was charging with non genuine charger in your car but the most probable thing is you are lying about just to make others paying your errors.Remember people that there is many usb chargers out there but not with the same power, if using a low powered one you will see a very low charge and even a non charge like happened to our little useless friend right above.
Serious.. well i am using a original SE charger i bought it at the same time as the phone.
just seems like alot of x10s have this fault.
No, just yours! actually during many months you wasn't able to show a real issue happened to your EX10, but this wont be a new beginning of another stupid off thread. Have a nice day!
Errr - okaaayyy...
Well trying to keep this factual and posative/contructive... thx for the input.
It's by no means a perfect handset but generally for my first touch-screen smart fone I'm happy with it. It judders and sneaky resets on a few occassions but not as much as previous Nokia smartfones I've had before. I actually work in handset software development so am familiar with when user interfaces try to hide the fact that things have gone pair-shaped underneath but keep the same frozen display...
Seems this display issue is probably more a google maps thing - strange they didnt think to add a function to keep the display on whilst charging - seems an obvious thing to do. Thanks for the RMAP app hint - worked quite well when driving to work this morning - however google has indication of traffic which is approximate but still quite handy...
Feedback to the SE developers - the battery charging seems alot slower (using all the SE-supplied mains chargers etc) than the charging times on my previous Nokias - not good when using the thing intensively during the day, have to carry a spare battery! In the car, the X10 only just manages to keep from discharging when using google maps in normal map display mode. If using the actual google voice guided navigation the battery plummets like a stone - or so it feels like. Admittedly my cigar lighter power supply is a 3rd party unit - but shows what a big difference in juice consumption there is for this mode! Maybe should invest in an SE car charger in the hope that it would make a difference..
Will continue to explore the apps market for GPS stuff...
Cheers
