After updating to Android 2.1 I restored my contacts and all was fine. Few days later all my contacts were gone! Restored again with no problems, but shortly after my disappeared contacts must have re-appeared and suddenly all my contacts are in triplicate. So now if I go into my phone book and select 'John Doe' it shows me 'John Doe' with phone numbers, email etc and below that there are more fields with the same info again (name, phone, email, etc). Even more annoying when I go into messaging and select 'add recipient' it gives me and endless list like this:
John Doe
home 123456789
John Doe
home 123456789
John Doe
home 123456789
John Doe
mobile 123456789
John Doe
mobile 123456789
John Doe
mobile 123456789
John Doe
email ........
You get my drift. Is there an easy way to rectify this, since I don't fancy editing every single one of approx 250 contacts in my phone book manually. It'd take me forever.
Thanx for any help - much appreciated
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any other way about it. I had to go into edit each contact, separate all the contacts, delete all but one and then add the appropriate information.
What is happening is that it is reinstating your contacts but as multiple contacts and automatically joining them all together instead of actually putting in all the information properly into a single contact, which is why you see the same details over and over again instead of 4 or 5 of the the same contact in your Contacts list.
Check out this thread and see if it helps. Seems like some useful info that doesn't require editing each contact. Hope this helps!
Go to Contact
Press the 3 heads silhouette
Under Display Contact collapse categories (Phone Contact, Google, Facebook, SonyEricsson, etc..)
Those categories represent record sources, so choose which one you would like to show on your phone book by checking or unchecking their boxes.
