Camera shutter key problem

When i go to press down on the camera shutter key for taking a photo or more importantly video it wont respond.  I know you have to press down hard, but as hard as i press the shutter key and press it down for a few seconds nothing happens.  It had worked when i first had the Arc.  Is there anything i can try do before considering taking it to a repair centre?? If indeed it does need to go in repair, would it mean them possibly having to take the phone apart and deleting any data?

Any info would be very much appreciated

Steve

By default any photos or video clips you have taken are stored on the micro SD card.

You could connect the Arc to a PC via the USB cable and copy the photos and video files.

The files will be in a sub folder 100ANDRO in the DCIM folder.

Most likely the camera shutter key contact could be a bit faulty now.

Not sure how hard you have been pressing the key.

You should not need to press very hard.

One thing to be careful about when pressing the key is to ensure the finger that is pressing the key is not wet or have some kind of moisture than can corrode the contact over time.

I always make sure my finger/fingers are dry when touching "any" part of the phone.  When i first had my Arc i only lightly pressed the shutter key when wanting to take a photo/shoot video, but it would not respond, so i pressed the key harder and hey presto it worked.  I remember looking on another forum not so long ago, with some users saying that they had to press down hard on the shutter key for it to work.

So there is no other way of recording video apart from using the shutter key then?

There is another way to record video without using the shutter key.

You can use the touch capture option.

In the video mode, press the menu key(right silver button).

Menu options will slide out.

Select the touch capture option and enable it.

To start recording, just touch any part of the screen and to stop just touch any part of the screen again.

Can I report a face palm moment I had myself with my camera, didn't think it was working no matter how hard I jabbed at it I wasn't hearing any shutter sound and no pictures were appearing in the thumbnails bar at the bottom of the screen.  It was only later when I looked at my SD card that I realised that I had taken about twenty random shots of nothing much, mainly my hand, the floor and random strangers as I fiddled around with it.  What I hadn't realised was that you can hide the thumbnail bar by dragging down on it, which I had done in error and assumed that my camera wasn't working.

I have it now set up with a loud shutter sound and either button or screen to capture.

I'm glad you are now able to take pictures with your phone again and just need to build your muscles up to press that button hard!
