Automatically rename photos?

HI All,

I have moved from a Samsung S2 to the Xperia Z1 and I think it is a brilliant phone but.............

The problem I have is that I use it daily to take photos at work, and after I have taken a batch of photos I connect it to my pc and cut & past them onto my pc.

The problem is, when I take another batch of photos and do cut & paste again, it wants to overwrite the last ones.

I never had this problem with the S2 because despite cutting photos from it, it always continued naming the photos from the last ones, whereas the Z1 starts from scratch with DSC0001.

Apart from have to rename them all every time I upload them, is there something I can do within the settings to get the phone to not reset the image file name?

So if I was to take 100 photos up to DSC 0100 and then cut them from the phone, it would automatically name the next photo DSC0101.

Or maybe there is an App that will do this?

Hi,

I'm not aware of any application that can rename the photos. When you take a picture with your Z1 the first photo will have the name DSC_0001, second photo DSC_0002 and so on. If you move the files to your PC and delete them from the phone it will start over from 0001 again.

You can try to leave the last picture that you have taken to see if it continues to count upwards on the filename.

wouldn't it be possible to add an option for the counter to NOT reset or to use the date as filename ?

i am in the same boat as previous phones just used the date for the file name so i could always cut & copy the photos. now it is quite annoying to be honest with the Z1 and V that are in use in my family. even my sony digital camera doesn't reset the counter.

any chance this gets changed ?

Don't bother downloading an app called DSC Auto Remame. It's absolutely useless. Paste your pics into a new folder on your pc, use the command line to rename all of them at once. Then move those pictures into the other folder where you'd like to keep all your pictures.

Try to use the app Google Camera.

It assigns properly names to the pictures, it includes the current date at its title....

@cootzo: How come DSC Auto Rename is useless? For me it seems to do the job. It renames my photos with date and time.
But of course I'd rather see the camera naming the photos right in the first place. This DSC_0001 system is crap.

Can you share the command line for PC?

By the way, I'm using the Xperia Z3+ and the DSC Auto Rename is very useful - I too had some teething issues with it at the start however after contacting the developer, we were able to troubleshoot what was wrong and he made some updates with clearer instructions.

Hello there,

I am an Xperia Z3 (+ may be?) user and I have the same photo naming problem. I have downloaded that "DSC Auto Rename" app but couldn't succeed to use it. Now there are almost 450 photos and 100 videos on phone and need to transfer them but before better rename them. Can you please help about using this app? And, is it possible to change the names of the photos/vids which are already taken or only for the future images?
