Got a ping last night to say that there was an update available (yay!). Went through Sony Update Service and it downloaded 154MB of update and then applied it. On restart the only difference I could see was that there was a new app - Creatouch - and what appears to be a library file (com.sonyericsson...) in my app list. So two questions:
1. How come that Creatouch - which app management claims is less than 4.5MB - needs a 154MB download? What else was in that update (there's no release notes I can find for it - which would have been useful)?
2. Is there anyone in SE that I can send feedback to (Jeff/KrazyD - maybe this is question for you?). Obviously something's not right in the update if it's putting a library file into the applist where users might try and run it. I did try that (being nosy) and got an alert dialogue "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" (which I've not done)
I thought this might be the long-awaited 2.1 update - but post install my phone's still at 1.6 (build R2BA020). :'( Still maybe this is preparation for 2.1 and at least this update came direct from SE, rather than having to wait for my teleco to look at it.
I have had Creatouch for a while, think I got it when I went from 016 to 023 build (am no on 026). You aren't missing anything, its more bloatware that is basically rubbish imho. Its for you to create backgrounds for your phone using your finger and the touchscreen to make patterns. I played with it briefly but my artistic ability is zero so there's no way I'd replace my beautiful background/wallpaper with something that looked like a kinder garten effort.
But that said you shouldn't have an app on there that doesn't work. That's even more annoying than having a piece of rubbish that does work.
Hello,
There is no problem with the phone or the software. New Xperia comes with Creatouch. When you update your phone, the whole software is downloaded ie all software that came packed with your phone. The update service flashes all the operating system contents and installed softwares and install a fresh copy. It was because of this that the update service downloaded 154MB for a 4.5Mb software. Android 2.1 update is not still out. I have read in another discussion that it will be available this week. Stay tuned.
