android version 2.1 when?!....

hi guyz....im new to this site so im not yet familiar with all the things going on...but im planning to buy xperia x8 but one thing is troubling me it has version 1.6.....can i ask this thing....is version 2.1 available to download?...if it is where can i possibly download it?...plzzz rply...need really help here...T_T

Gingerbread is 3.0, isn't it?  It's the one that is on the point of being released, anyway, whatever its number.

Why they are called donut, eclair, froyo and gingerbread is another matter.  I have no idea!

Were they able to load custom roms?

AFAIK, they were able to root the phone but the boot loader wasn't already cracked...

Lol. That is an easy answer... In a certain way!

I don't know why they decide to give it food name but... let's see: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc... If you check the first letter of each release it follows an order: A,B,C,D,E,F, etc... so, you can expect cakes all the way XD

So about the versions: Wikipedia says that 2.3 is gingerbread and 3.0 is honeycomb, however, Wikipedia may be right or may be wrong...

I feel ashamed that I hadn't even noticed that the initial letters were following the alphabet!  I just Googled 'Froyo' and discovered that it's a brand name for frozen yoghurt.  I had only heard of it in the Android context.

Wikipedia does certainly sometimes get things wrong.  I just checked with Google and that suggested that Gingerbread was 3.0 and that Honeycomb would be 3.1 or 3.2.  For X8 and X10 users, I suspect that it is all academic anyway.

that means we can download the eclair from google right?...since x8 has 1.6 getting eclair 2.1 is right choice..but when i updated my x8 it says ur phone has the latest software...my questions is which one?..the donut or eclair?..

Eclair isn't yet available for the X8.  You can't download it direct from Google, so you'll just have to wait till it is made available by Sony Ericsson.

Well SonyEricsson, it's now 3pm on the 28th October 2010 and version 2.1 remains unavailable!

I have just received my X8 from O2 in the UK with 1.6 on it.  If the update is not available VERY soon it will be going BACK to O2 as an out of date piece of rubbish, this software is very old.

I do not expect to buy a new phone at the end of October 2010 which was released as a new product this year. Then I discover 2008/9 operating software on it!!

(2.2 would be asking too much so soon, but a new phone with an 2 year old opperating system is appalling)

1st - No one forced you to buy it

2nd - Sony Ericsson is not watching this threads

3rd - Complaining won't bring you 2.1 faster

4th - Read other posts and threads to find when 2.1 will *probably* be available

A possible solution:

     1 return the phone

     2 study hard

     3 make yourself SE's CEO

Another possible solution

     1 return the phone

     2 wait until 2.1 is out

     3 buy again and update

Yet another possible solution

     1 return the phone

     2 buy from another brand

     3 talk bad about SE

If these solutions are not suitable for you I can give you a couple more, however, keep in mind that coming to the forum with demands and threats won't give you anything... besides troll-food

mate, not again, asking for 2.1 release whe you know you are buying a 1.6? We need to be responsible for our action and decision.:smileywink:
