"We have been sent what is believed to be the Android roadmap for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 family. It is in German and originates from last week’s IFA show in Berlin. We can’t verify whether it is real or not, but it appears legit to us.

The roadmap highlights three major firmware releases: Android 1.6x, Android 2.1 and Android 2.1x. It shows that the Android 2.1 update for the Xperia X10 will get 720p video recording with continuous autofocus. HTML5 will also be adopted along with 5 homescreens and a social phonebook (facebook/twitter integration with your contacts). The document also points to a revised menu.

For the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 the 2.1 update will bring with it a slight change in the four-corner navigation along with Bluetooth 2.1. These mobiles will also get the social phonebook and HTML5 adoption.

Following this, there will then be the Android 2.1x update that will bring Sony Ericsson’s revamped UX platform to Timescape and Mediascape along with more languages. Unfortunately, the roadmap for all handsets stops at 2.1x so I wonder whether we’ll ever see Android 2.2 (Froyo) on the X10."

Update: According to forum member steinii1488 of se-world.info the Android 2.1 update is expected in October/November (this could be a regional thing as SE UK have promised an update by the end of Q3). He goes on to say that the Android 2.1x update will fall in December 2010/January 2011. This means that if SE is planning a Froyo update for the Xperia X10, it won’t fall in 2010.

Maybe its true, the first plans from SE its just to bring 2.1 Android to this phone, but i think (and i hope i am right) with more peopel buying this phone they maybe bring 2.2.

This is as the customer service personnel told me before. The likelihood of 2.2 coming into X10 is almost impossible.

If more people buy X10i because of 2.1, then SE will more than likely bring out another new phone rather than feed the old one.

I have to say I bought my phone knowing it was 1.6 and had the promise of 2.1 at some point down the line.  I never read any promise of it getting 2.2 so I am not particularly suprised or dissappointed.  Tech these days is out of date the moment you walk out of the store, you can never hope to keep up with the latest greatest thing.  You just have to resign yourself to getting that next time you make a purchase and I expect Sony has plans for a phone release that is 2.2 or even heaven forbid 3.0.

I don't know, it seems a stupid decision, that's all.

Devices from other manufacturers that are much older than the x10 got updated to Froyo or are about to get the update.

This really doesn't fit SE's strategy to become the No1 Android mobile supplier. Or maybe they're thinking of releasing a new device with every new Android iteration.

Thank god for devs at xda, that's all I'm gonna say for now.

There is going to be a PSP-Android 3.0 phone-device in Q1. SE announced this, no? Of course, we have to take into consideration the usual SE practice of product launch delays.

It would not surprise me if they didn't support the phone beyond 2.1x, but I think this leaked roadmap just covers 2010.

Their 2011 roadmap probably includes one more X10 update and a new hardware launch, possibly with a newer than 2.2 version of Android.

I don't mean to be rude, but this seems like either you are ignorant or really really optimistic.

Isn't HTML5 more browser based than OS based?  Yes it's a fairly new open "replacement" for Flash, but it still isn't Flash.  Considering the amount of content in the internet that requires Flash capability it's a shame SE don't actually offer up 2.2 as a final update either late this year or early next year.  I'm sure the hardware would cope with it.

Yes, HTML5 is still a long way from being what Flash is today, but we all should give it a lot of support, rather than let Adobe hold us ransom on web evolution.

They have reached a stalmate and still won't deliver a 64-bit version, holding the whole internet world from fully experiencing 64-bit browsing. they said they are commited. All I see is a bunch of really lazy fat people trying not to do their work. So f**k off, we need to move on.
