Xperia XA1 Plus (Dual SIM) Non Stop Restarting

Not sure what happened, but last night as soon as I plugged my phone in to the wall charger like I do every night, it started restarting non-stop.

It does load the home screen, the launcher launches and everything seems fine for a couple of seconds, then it proceeds to restart again.

Here's everything I've tried:

  • Soft resetting - Volume Up + Power Button. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Safe Mode - Volume Down + Power Button. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Removed SD Card and let it restart. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Removed SIM tray. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Removed SD Card and SIM tray and tried Safe Mode. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Plugged it into the wall charger, and tried all of the above. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Plugged into my PC, and tried all of the above. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Left it unplugged, and tried all of the above. Same error occurs. Restarts after a few seconds.
  • Powered Down the phone, and left it charging through the wall charger, it charges perfectly fine and at the usual charing rate. Also tried charging it through my PC, and it charges up at the usual rate.

I want to try the Xperia Companion Software Repair, but the phone restarts as soon as the Software detects it.
I know the charger or cable isn't faulty beacuse I've tried it on other phones and it functions just fine.
Any advice other than taking it to a service center would be appreciated!

Hi @Stalline, sorry to hear about this.

You mentioned that you tried the volume up + power button and that it restarted after a few seconds. Could you maybe try to press the same buttons and hold them until the phone vibrates three times. This method is a so called force shut down.

When the phone is shut down you should be able to repair the software. Keep in mind though that since you are not able to start the phone, you will need to start the repair without the phone being connected to the computer. After clicking on software repair, tick the "My device cannot be detected or started, or is a Smartwatch 3" checkbox and choose "Next", then simply follow the on-screen instructions.

Try this and let me know how it goes!

@Martin thanks a lot! This worked! I lost all my data in the phone storage and had to start fresh after the repair though.

I am delighted to hear that it worked, @Stalline!

Yes, a sofware repair will unfortunately erase all user data from the device. In order to avoid data loss in the future, I suggest that you set your phone to automatically do a backup of your user data on a regular basis. This is done by going to Settings > System > Backup.

I hope that helped. Let me know if you have any further questions! Slightly_smiling_Face
