XL 100 5.1 audio

Hi, My optical output is connected to a Rotel AV decoder, although the Rotel shows a Dolby Digital input, the centre and surround speakers are not being fed, when plying a DVD in Media Center,only the Front L+R are operating. I have followed the instructions, any further suggestions?

hello alvar....couple thing mebbe to try if you haven't already:

(a) use test function in your 5.1 speaker set to ensure you get sound out of all speakers
(b) Check sound card settings. Don't know what features you have on but no doubt some boxes or drop downs allowing you to specify output type/speaker set up
(c) check audio set up on film...is 5.1 selected?

Thanks Luca, I went to the speaker test, what confused me initially was that the manual instructions were to ignore the fact that not all the speakers sounded at this point and proceed to the next stage, the set up of the sound card.At this moment I had a sudden attack of logical thinking, was my Rotel decoder at fault, indeed it was , it had reset itself to stereo on the channel dedicated to the Vaio.I had made the mistake of blaming the new addition to the family, sorry Sony! Without your reply I don't think I would have spotted the error, thanks from a very humble Alvar!
