Wireless connection

Hi, I have Vaio LA1 and hate the fact that my broadband white box is fixed on opposite wall to desk, and so has to trail across the room to reach modem which sits on my desk. If I used a wireless connection could I dispense with the white cable? If the answer is yes, is using a wireless connection simply a matter of buying a router? I would not want to connect to other computers or use anywhere else in the house. As you can see I am a novice, and so any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Hi Calcar and welcome.

Yes, the answer is probably to buy an ASDL/Modem/Wireless Router. This will get rid of the wire and the modem.

Is your broadband supplied through your telephone line or is it via cable?

Thank you for responding. My broadband connection is thro cable. Would I need a seperate router if I had a wireless printer as well, or does one router fit all?

Hi Calcar,

You will need a wireless broadband cable routers something like this and if your printer has wireless capabilities you will be able to access this as well..

If your printer does not have inbuilt wireless capabilities you could purchase a Wireless Print Server, something like this ..
