VERY temperamental wireless on new CR Series

Got Vaio CR series last week, everything is fine except for the wireless connection. The other computers on my network connect fine to the wireless router so the problem isn't there.

Basically it can work fine for ages, then suddenly it will lose connection and the only way to get it to find any networks again is to restart. However, once the adaptor loses the connection, the laptop will not shut down. It gets stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen in Windows Vista. The only option is to hold the power button to cut off the laptop and boot up again.

Another area of trouble is when the laptop wakes from sleep mode, when sometimes the wireless connects fine and dandy and carries on working and other time it just wont find any wireless networks so the shut down option is the only remedy, yet it freezes on the shutting down screen.

I have all the updates and have installed the two seperate windows updates that were released last week and are not yet on windows update.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi James and welcome to Club Vaio.

It's often difficult to sort out intermittent problems like this.

What version of the Wireless Driver are you using - have a look in Control Panel -> Device Manager and expand "Wireless Adapters". Right-click on your wireless card and choose 'Properties'. What driver version is quoted? While there, click on the Power Management Tab (if there is one) and make sure 'Maximum' Performance is selected.

This Microsoft Hotfix KB933872 may help the connection after waking from sleep.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. I already have that Windows hot-fix installed, yet it is still having trouble, only sometimes, on waking from sleep.

The driver version for my wireless card is 11.1.0.86.
