Wanting to use the Vaio Camera Capture Utility version 2.200.14140 using the Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6 on my notebook Sony Vaio AR41S it gives an error message "An attempt to initialize the camera failed. Please check if another software is using the camera. " Strange enough earlier on it functioned. And strange enough it functions fine in Skype.
I tried to unistall and re-install afterwards (after rebooting) the Vaio Camera Capture Utility and Vaio Camera Utility but without luck. I also tried to switch off the Vaio camera utilty at MSconfig but also without luck.
How can I use the Vaio Camera Capture Utility in order to be able to make some pictures and videos again?
thanks
PS I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium
Hi dutchmedia
Have you tried downloading and installing the Microsoft Camera Hotfix KB931812 (I've attached this file below)
Yes...but then my PC says..."The update does not apply to your system"...
Is the camera installed properly as a Sony Vaio Visual Communications Camera? Have a look in Device Manager -> Imaging Devices
If the hotfix doesn't install, it sounds like it doesn't think you have a Sony Webcam. Check it's not installed as a generic USB Camera.

Anybody had any new suggestion???
PS how do I uninstall and re-install the camera if I want to?????
You are probably right - the Hotfix is not targeted at your model as the problem was solved before your model was released.
Sounds like your Camera is installed properly as it is OK in Device Manager and works with Skype. No point in reinstallation as it is OK.
Sounds like the Vaio Camera Utility is installed properly - this is used by programs like Skype and MSN. No problem here.
Problem seems to be the Vaio Camera Capture Utility.
You could try and reinstall this Utility by downloading the Original AR4_Utilities Package from -
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-AR&m=2679
Right-click on the downloaded .ZIP file and choose "Extract All". Extract to a new folder C:\Utils. Open 'Utils Installer VAIO Camera Capture Utility' and run 'Setup.EXE'
If this fails, you will need to contact Sony for advice.
Before I do this I have some news...
I made a new user account on Microsoft Vista (with administrator rights) and suddenly
the camera capture utility works fine with that new account!!!
But on my regular account (also with administrator rights) the camera capture utility keeps NOT functioning...any idea how to solve this??
PS on Skype the camera didNOT seem to work however at Skype with testing I get an image but on the receiver site it didn't give pictures...
Well, all the suggested things from Sony and this forum didn't help.
At the end the Sony helpdesk said to me they don't know how to solve it although the hardware should be ok as the camera works fine through the other Windows account...
It is a pity that it seems to be impossible to get the camera working at the regular login of my PC...
If someone might have any other idea I would be more then thankful!
