Sony vaio VGN-FS285B (PCG-7A1M)
the symptoms are when the system is turned on you get no picture on the screen, the only lights are the 3 green lights in a row near the power button, they stay on all the time the main power light on the front edge of the note book and the amber batt light also on the front edge of the note book, there is also no beeps or bleeps from the system when its powered-up.
On very rare occations when it starts up it boots to the xp boot menu screen and when you select any of the options IE safemode the system freezes at that point and all you can do is turn off.
once or twice it has BSOD on boot and mentioned ACPI not being supported by the hardware.
I've tryed the hdd as a second drv in another system and it sees the info all ok and passes h/w tests, I've tryed turning on the notebook with the hdd out also with the battry out and just turning on attached to the mains, still with no joy, The system has 2x sticks of ram installed i've tryed it with every combo of just having one or other sticks of ram in and turning the system on, again no picture or output.
I suspect its the main system board but just wonderd if anyone else had any further thoughs or things i can try.
The notebook is outside its warranty period.
Thanks in advance for any help
