Dear all,
I'm still battling away with my new FE-41S trying to get it to work reliably, despite myself. My problem of the moment is that the screen keeps resetting itself to a low resolution every time the machine comes out of suspend, and sometimes on start up. This is irritating, but actually a problem to me because I'm a lecturer, and I am concerned this trick might become acute when connected to a projector where I have to use an external LCD. I've installed the Nvidia update on the web pages which is designed to fix this exact problem, and checked the drivers are at the version specified (which they seem to be, although the date of the drivers is February whilst the driver package is dated July, which is odd). Has anyone had any success in installing generic Nvidia Geforce drivers on machines similar to like mine? Is there anything I can do to get my screen working stably?
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Ian,
There are two new Performance and Reliability Hotfixes for Vista which may help: -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979
Just a bit surprised that they have not been released on Windows Update as essential???
Have you installed the BIOS Update to R0200J3?
You can install any nVidia driver right up to the most recent drivers available but you need to accept that they have not been tested by Sony and may have small bugs. To install any of these, follow this excellent step-by-step guide.
Dear Blencongo,
Thanks very much for this - the most recent drivers seem to have fixed the problem (why on earth don't Sony release them 'properly'?). My sanity is a little more intact this morning.
Best regards,
Ian
