Problem installing increased memory on A517S

I have tried to increase the memory of my A517s from 2 512 modules to 2 1Gb modules. I purchased the memory from Crucial and it is the correct type for my notebook. Unfortunately my computer would not boot after installing the memory and I had just a competely black screen. Second time I tried it I did manage to load windows and use the computer for a few minutes before it crashed. Third time had black screen again. All is ok with just one of the 1gb modules installed. Crucial say I need to update the bios and need to download this from sony website but I am unable to find this. Any help, advice, suggestions please?

Hi ColonelsLady and welcome to the forum.

There is no BIOS update available for this model from vaio-Link, and as the specs state that it is upgradable to 2048 MB, I would question whether this is really the issue. Do BOTH modules work individually?

I suggest that you return the modules for a refund or replacement.
