I have a VGN-FE11S from around 2006 runnning on XP media centre and recently it has been having problems whereby it is not following its power saving instructions. This started a few months ago and I chalked it down to a dead battery, however I recently replaced the battery and the vaio power saving options are still not working properly. I have it set at the default 'max battery' setting whereby the monitor is to turn off after 2 mins, the hard disc after 3 mins, standby on 5 mins and hibernate on 10 mins. The monitor does go off after 2 mins, I'm not sure about the hard disc, its difficult to tell but the standby and hibernate doesn't happen at all. I have tried setting up my own power saving plans - which also use to work.
I have no problems at all manually putting the computer in to standby and hibernate through windows, and when the battery level falls below about 7% it does successfully go in to hibernation, why isn't the automatic vaio power saving program working?
