Possible Video Driver problem? VGN-NR21Z

So, since last year, I've been having problems with my Vaio. First I got white dots scattered across the screen at start-up and it would just keep restarting until it shut down. I got it fixed at a dodgy place, but that lasted only a couple of months. A friend of my dad's got it working again, but he never got rid of the white dots. Now since Sunday, at start-u I've been getting an accented 'a' plus te white dots and my screen has blue lines running down it. It still turns on and works, but I know this probably won't last. From what I can tell, it is a driver problem. I don't know if there is any way of fixing this without spending so much ££ again. I am out of the country and can't call customer service. Any advice?

Hi amapowel,

Is the same fault evident on the BIOS screen? (Tap F2 at boot to enter BOIS.)

If the same distortion is evident then it is not a driver problem and more likely hardware related.

To determine whether a hardware fault is graphics chip or LCD screen related, plug in an external monitor. If the same distortion is present on the external monitor then it is probably a graphics chip problem.
