Plugging in headphones SOMETIMES deactivates internal speakers

Hi,
in order to play without disturbing the rest of the household, i use headphones.

Or rather, I used to, on other machines, because no amount of configuration, nudging of jack,
coarse language or burning of incense, have proved to have a lasting effect; sometimes it
works as intended, sometimes not. I listen to music in WMP, netradio in IE/FF, play video
in WMP/VLC, play DOS, 16/32/whatever-bit games and theres no way of telling when it will
work. Yesterday, playing 'Future Pinball', I had sound in my headphones, tomorrow it might
as well be internal only, driving the wife nuts.

PC is type vpcf11s1e, windows 7 home premium, all updates and no funny business installed (yet).

Happy easter vacation (whereever it may apply)

jack,

Problem gone. I'll never know whether it's because of an update, divine intervention or even the _remote_ possibility, that I've used the wrong socket, but it's gone.
