Sound stopped whilst being active on the laptop.
Looking in Device Manager it showed no Realtek Audio sound driver. So it was not surprising that there was no sound. I installed the latest audio drivers from the Sony website but now the Realtek Audio driver is displaying “The device cannot start (code 10)”. I have also deleted all the sound drivers (e.g. Bluetooth) and no Realtek drivers were detected on reboot.
I tried running the VAIO care software as it may provide some hardware diagnostics. Unfortunately, this failed as Windows reported a problem; so I downloaded the latest version from the Sony website and that failed also.
I would be grateful for any advice in troubleshooting this problem. I am a bit suspicious that there maybe a hardware fault and is there a way to detect that? Would dxdiag show a hardware fault for a sound card?
The laptop is a Sony VAIO model VPCEBEF4E. It is also running suspiciously slow.
