I had the same problem, I went to my device manager and saw a yellow warning, in the Portable Devices, WPD file system volume driver, I hadn't even tried to install a portable device either!! I was told to just delete the driver and that it would reinstall itself from the driver database within my winows os. Everything was back to normal.
