My Vaio VGN-BX296VP won't detect external monitor? need help :)

Hi, I recently installed win 7 on my laptop (vgn-bx296vp) , I have plugged an external monitor in to it via VGA as I always work with 2 screens, and for some reason it will not identify it.. it is not the monitor as I have tried 2 that I know work. Any ideas? I have been searching and going through everywhere in control panel but no luck so far.

Are the Fn keys working?  You would normally try toggling to the VGA output by pressing Fn + F7.

Which driver do you have installed for the Intel 915GM graphics?

hi! sorry i am so late replying, been out of action for ages due to an accident! anyway I need to sort this out now what with me off work too!

I have tried the toggle - no luck.

Sorry i am not great on computers, how can I tell which driver you refer to? where do I look?
