FE41ZR connected to wireless network via built-in "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection". Internet and local network works fine.
But if notebook was locked (Windows+L or after screensaver) and then unlocked, wireless adapter always disconnects from network - icon with red "X" appear in the bottom right corner and after a half of a minute adapter connects to the network again and icon changes to globe. All download sessions in Internet Explorer canceled after that, for example.
This happens even if I press Windows+L and then enter unlock password immediately - wireless adapter always disconnected.
What the problem is?
Additional info:
1. If notebook connected via TP cable via secondary built-in "Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection" everything OK - not disconnected after lock/unlock.
2. Option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is off for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection".
Sorry if I'm wrong - but I think that's what it does on every machine, it's best to just leave the screensaver on with a password if you're worried about data privacy, but it's not fool proof, people can reset the machine and login if it's not passworded.
Check the power saving settings for the ProWireless.
Not sure for Vista, but there is no such problem under XP on Toshiba's notebook.
What do you mean? I only set the password for the user I'm working in Vista.
If someone reset the computer it can't logon because user have a password.
Already checked. Option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is off for "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection".
Any other ideas?
Hi vlad177,
Vista does seem to have a few problems with wireless connection. One major issue seems to be IPV6 and disabling this may or may not solve your problem, but it is worth a try.
Go to Network and Sharing Center and under Wireless Network Connection click ‘View Status’.
On the following window click the ‘Properties’ button at the bottom left.
On the next window, Networking tab > deselect TCP/IPV6 and click ok, then restart.
Your feedback as to whether this has any effect would be appreciated.
Rich, thanks for your response!
Either IPv6 disabled or not, either QoS enabled or disabled - wireless adapter always disconnected from network after lock/unlock.
Latest drivers for wireless adapter from Intel web site also have no any effect on this.

Just want to add a "me too" on my VAIO VGN-AR41S with the Intel 3945ABG adapter on Vista Home Premium. Having said that, my adapter was set to switch off to save power so I've unchecked that and will see if it makes any difference. I always run it on mains power though...
Be sure to update this thread if anybody makes any progress on this issue.

You have to install the driver update which you can get from intel's website.
Go to this LINK and select your wireless card en download the latest drivers. It doesn't solve the problem entirely BUT it connect within 2 or 3 seconds back to Internet unlike the older driver which forces you to disable en enable your wireless connection with the Wireless device switch.
It solves the problem for me since I do have 3 sec of patience. I tested it by windowsbutton+L key (windows lock). When you return you only have to wait for 2 or 3 sec before its connected again. I don't think a lot of people can't wait for 3 sec.
Yet ofcourse this prolem should be solved.

Maybe this hotfix might make a difference. I also disabled the option in my wireless power option "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power".
