DVD drives for VAIO Netbooks / Laptops

Do Sony sell an approved external DVD unit for installing software on Vaio's that don't have one built in? I want to buy a VPCYB2M1E/P but it doesn't seem to come with a DVD drive. I'll need to install things like Office 2010.

Hi revchill and welcome.

Sony  do not seem to have a portable USB DVD-RW drive on their website at  present.  They used to make a Blu-Ray and two portable DVD-RW drives.

However, any USB Portable DVD drive should work OK and you can choose from several of these on Amazon.  Just search for 'Slimline USB external DVD-RW' - there are several for between £25 and £40.

These will work to install new programs as well as to back-up your data and copy CD/DVD.
