Drivers...Help Me...Please!

OK, I'm sorry to start a new thread, but I've come to the end of my teather with this. I've (finally!) managed to install Vista on my V2M, but I'm having trouble with the drivers. When I try and manually install drivers, Vista tells me the best driver's already installed. BUT, I know that the Intel Chipset driver isn't at it's best as I can't seem to use Aero. I may be wrong, but I'm sure it's the driver.

I've downloaded all the old XP drivers as there are NO Vista drivers available (thanks Sony) so I don't know where to go from here.

I sorted out my Pavilion in minutes as all HP's drivers are nicely tidied up in exe files! Why can't Sony be as helpful to those who want to upgrade???

Anyone know of any easy way to install missing drivers?

Cheers,
Ex

I think I would update the driver for your nVidia GeForce FX Go5700 graphics card to a newer Vista version and see if that fixes Aero.

There is no Sony approved update but read this tutorial: -

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997

I would try a recent full driver from the Vista list here: -

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista

The .INF file does support your FX Go5700.

I tried that (as I found reference to it in another post), but something went wrong and I had to do a system restore as I had no picture! Don't know if I mucked it up or what, but not sure I want to try again! Lol!

I've tried installing the Intel driver, but keep getting an error. Something like not compatable with the hardware? It's the right driver, just doesn't want to install!

Is there a difinative guide to re-installing drivers? I had a look at the US site which was supposed to have a guide, but I couldn't find anything.

I did try a mix and match aproach, installing drivers I thought should go with "!" marked items in Device Manager, but had a bit of Blue Screen Of Death trouble, so won't try that again!

Thanks again for your help!

Alright! Now we're cookin'! I did try that link; just picked the first one on the list and it installed OK. So now have lovely Aero look! Thanks for that.

I just have a couple more items I need some help with and then I can leave you in peace.

I have the following in Device Manager with an "!" next to:

isatap:WAG54GS - Something to do with my router, but I don't know what.

Teredo Tunneling Psudo-Interface - I read on another forum that this is something to do with IPv6. Does it matter if it has an "!" next to it as it's not used?

Multimedia Video Contorller - No idea. Thought it was for Intel, but I just don't know...

PCI Modem - When I try and install another driver Vista tells me it's already got the best driver, but the "!" remains.

Unknown Device - Well, if Vista doesn't know, then neither do I!

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Cheers again,

Still can't figure these drivers out. Contacted e-support and they pointed me in this direction: http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/os/vista/vista.asp?site=voe_en_G B_cons However, I can't get the page to load. Even just tried http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk but nada.

I've re-contacted them, but I'm not holding my breath. Is anyone else having trouble accessing the page? I REALLY want to get my Vaio running again!

Cheers all,

I think this is the link they are referring to: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/os/vista/vista.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons

If you go to the Vista download page for your model here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=1&s=VGC-V&m=1753&...

you will find ALL the Utilities and Applications to run your V2S with Vista. If a Vista driver is not available, then the old XP Driver will work with Vista. Download the Original XP Drivers Pack and you should be able to install ALL the devices on your Vaio.

The multimedia video device is your Sony TV Tuner - it just needs the XP Driver.

Just follow the instructions given by Sony. Several have successfully updated the V-Series Vaios and even installed the Vista version of Vaio Zone so that the TV works.

Hi Blencogo,

I have actually done that; I have all the XP drivers, but they're not exactly easy to install as they don't actually NAME the things! It's all good and well them calling the Memory Stick Driver "XYZ", but unless it actually says "Memory Stick" on the driver AND in Device Manager, how the heck am I supposed to know which driver goes with what???

Sorry if I sound a bit angry, but I am. Just had an update to my question on e-support and they didn't even bother reading my first email! Completely useless!

My point is, all the items I've listed above I have NO idea what driver goes with what, and the few drivers I have left don't self-install, so I don't know what to put where!

Like I said before, I've had to do this with my HP Pavilion and ALL the drivers self installed so I was up and running again in about ten minutes. Typical of Sony to not give a rat's rear end about it's customers and leave them floundering like dying fish in the sun! It's been over a week now and I STILL can't use my Memory Stick slot! Plus you have to install all the drivers before installing the other stuff, like Vaio Zone, so I can't watch the TV.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't appreciate the help of yourself and other members, but I'm really fed-up of going round in circles!

Mine's actually the V2M, but it looks like there are no new drivers available for the V2S either anyway!

So, now I know what the TV tuner goes with, any enlightenment on the others?

Cheers,
Ex

P.S, sorry for rant, but Sony are REALLY getting on my nerves!

Hi Exinferis,

Unfortunately, you cannot expect Sony to hold your hand through this. They do not support Vista on your model and if you choose to update to an Operating System your V2M is not designed for, you are on your own!

To use Vista you will have to force the Vaio to install the Sony drivers. In Device Manager, right-click on the Device with a warning against it and choose 'Update Driver'. Choose 'No, not this time' -> 'Install from List or Specific Location' -> 'Don't Search, I will choose a driver to install' -> 'Have Disc' and browse to C:\Drivers and let the wizard search for the correct driver from that location only.

I don't expect Sony to "hold my hand" I expect them to supply drivers when they say they will! They refuse to support their own products and this isn't a new thing.

It may surprise you to hear that I actaully do know a thing or two about computers! I'm not a newbie and I'm not thick. But when you ask for assistance from the so-called support team when SAY they have the drivers but actually don't, then I just think that's not on.

I appreciate your time helping me with the drivers. What I don't apprecuate is your condicending tone when I make my annoyances clear. If you're not prepared to help then don't! I'm not forcing you to answer my queries.

The point I was trying to make was this: I contaced Sony support who told me that my model was supported and they had updated drivers. They didn't. The drivers I did have weren't working. I know how to manually update a driver, so that's what I was doing. However, half of the one's I had weren't being recognised by Vista THAT'S why I was asking for assistance. I wasn't expecting snide comments!

However, I did actaully manage to find drivers elsewhere that installed properly and run well. So I've no need to ask anymore advice... Which is probably a good thing considering your last post. :zipper_mouth:
