Any idea how long Vista will take to defrag the 200Gb HDD on my SZ5?
Drive is about 60% full, lots of music and games, but not too much uninstalling has been done.
I'm still finding my way round Vista, but seems to me that the Vista defrag utility doesn't have the graphical bar indicator like XP does, so it's been defragging for 6 hours now....and I've no idea on what progress is being made!!

6 hours Wow!
Although I would imagine that is probably about right.
Have you ever used O & O Defrag ?
It really is a great application.
Edit: Beat me to it Matt LOL
Well you did get the link so i think you probably would have one without that!
Thanks for the replies guys.
Defrag has already been hard at it for 6+ hours now, hope it finishes before end of my working day in 3 hours time.....
I'll check out O&O for future use.

It's getting turned off if it's not done by end of my day...I am stuck far from home with very little entertainment and I need the machine for important stuff like movie watching and game playing.
If it's not done I'll get the O&O utility you recommended and have another defrag session during tomorrow's working day.
I've only ever waited around 3hrs for an 80GB to be defragged, but I did leave it 4 years without doing it.

3 hours is the norm. Did you disconnect from the internet and turn off your firewall and anti virus and disable all programs in the task bar by right clicking on them. If not the defragmentor would have been attempting to defragment folders that were in use and therefore would have taken longer to place them on the Hard drive...bit like posting a letter just to find it reappears in your office.
