Club VAIO synchronisation ... what for?

I'am new to this VAIO laptop.

When I spawn My Club VAIO, the application is synchronising with ... what?
What is ther purpose of this .. synchronisation ?

I notice on a slow 64k ISDN link, it is slow to take place and triggers often a unicode wrapper error message. Does it matter if I switch it off in the configuration menu?

No I don't turning off synchronization will cause any problems, but if it does you could always turn it back on again..
