Classic Vaio help and advice... HD upgrade, Vista and the DW-56A

Hello all... new here and got a lot of old posts to read through...

Got a few questions regarding my Vaio... its a VGN-FS115E so a old one.

Its got a 60GB harddrive and ive seen Samsung 160gb versions selling for £50 and fancied replacing mine as with all my music in itunes im near my limit on the original. Ive seen how to physically replace the drive, but dont know the best way to copy all my programs, settings etc etc over... My burning software (Ashampoo Burning studio 7) has a backup option that lets me copy C-Drive? Will that do the job? If not whats the easiest way for a very basic computer user?

Im also considering getting Vista... is it worth while or will it be nothing more than hassle? The memory has been upgraded to 1GB so should be able to run it i guess?

Also the old DW-56A drive issues... as with them all, it keeps making me place mats from CDs... ive been reading posts on here and it says use firmware from a site and references it to s PFS2 drive.. so i downloaded and ran the program and mine is on PFS3... so it asks if i wanna change down to PFS2?? Is that right or is my firmware newer already??

Sorry for all the questions.
