Hello.
I want to get a FE21-M booted from a USB memory, a memory stick, or a MMC/SD. Is it possible? Or a can only boot from HD, DVD and external sony's floppy disk? I'm interested in installing in a memory of this kind a linux distribution, getting a quite comfortable way using it.
I have been searching, and I coudn't find a clear answer.
Thanks in advance.
Hi chestnut_jam and welcome to Club Vaio.
Sony Vaio laptops will only boot from USB with an external Floppy Drive. No other USB device will boot.
It may be possible to boot conneced via a PCMCIA adapter card but I haven't heard of anyone actually achieving this.
That's not entirely true. I have an ASUS pendrive that boots any computer... maybe because it has a shadow drive inserted into the boot function, like the U3 system has also one, but in this case, the "fake" drive is used only for booting functions.
Thanks for your answers.
Seawit, can you tell a bit more about that or give a link to a explanation, please?
It seems interesting, and can be enough for me.
Thanks
Seawit, can you tell a bit more about "it has a shadow drive inserted into the boot function". I don't understentand it very well.
Thanks in advance.
