Hi, "Windows Update" does not (yet) offer Windows 7 SP1 for some VAIO models. Among the usual suspects for this issue are obsolete drivers, notably the ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 driver for a VAIO VPCECxxx. Likewise new Chrome and IE9 versions urge users to update their drivers for new GPU tricks in these Web browsers.
As far as I can tell it the installed ATI driver is good enough for Chrome and IE9, but an obscure "DriverFinder" by http://www.driverfinderpro.com/ claims that 13 drivers on my VAIO are obsolete. The registered version would offer download links for these drivers, but I don't intend to register this tool.
Instead I visited the ATI site looking for a new driver, but they clearly told me that this is not recommended for (among others) Sony products, I should get new drivers here. But the latest ATI + Realtek drivers are not yet available for my VAIO model. I could get some newer drivers here using a different (incorrect) VAIO model, but I'm not sure about the side-effects, and besides the newer ATI driver would still not match the latest version date reported by "DriverFinder".
So when can I expect to get new drivers for my VAIO here or via VAIO update? At some point in time I want an up to date Windows 7 SP1 box with IE9, and a corresponding updated recovery / repair partition. Alternatively or additionally an original Windows 7 SP1 installation DVD (ISO-image) could also help if everything else fails. I had to reinstall an old W2K from scratch only once years ago, but copying or checking files based on the original CD (for W2K, now DVD for Windows 7) is a common task.
I agree with the above . I`m looking too for a newer video driver for my VPCEB4Z1E/BQ (HD 5650) . The ones in the AMD website are not compatible with my hardware and the driver i`m curently using is very old - 9/20/2010 - 8.723.8.2000 .
I hope SONY will look into updateing their drivers more frequently ! I`m highly disappointed !
Do we have service (support) from Sony ?
