I have a Vaio VGN-S5HP/B with a SATA-1 HD (80GB).
Do you know if I can replace it with a SATA-2 HD (500GB)
or if I have to use a SATA-1 HD (320GB)?

Hi mattemanne,

The good thing about the SATA standard is that it is always backward compatible - so any SATA disc (1, 2 or 3) will work in your Vaio.

The only proviso is that the drive must be a 9.5mm thick, 2-platter drive. Beware - some discs over 320GB are 3-platter drives and are 12.5mm thick.

So check the thickness - I think WD and Seagate are Ok but check Hitachi carefully.
