DVDs are shown as widescreen and we can't seem to change it

When we use a DVD of a film it appears as widescreen and we want it on full sreen. Not the case with every DVD. Can anyone help please?

This is normally a setting you need to change on the TV rather than the DVD player. What TV do you have?
