Yellow tint

Anyone else have a yellow tint on their display?? I have it quite bad on the bottom of the display and both left and right hand edges of display running from top to bottom. Is it possible with a firmware update that this issue could be eliminated. J had read on one forum that ICS update SHOULD solve it. Something to do with the colour calibration. I have also heard that it could be to do with colour temperature of screen,  or the glue that was used to put display together.

Any advice would be gladly appreciated as this is ruining my experience with this device.

Hey jkcert and djingga,

I am from Singapore.

I received similiar email reply from Sony Mobile Singapore regarding this issue as well.

They will refer you to go the service centre. If you read the terms or conditions of Sony Mobile Warranty, Sony will either repair the phone or replace the phone (could be a refurbished set with good working condition, not necessary a new one) at the service center's discretion.

It is Sony's company policy. So defective things has to go to the service center unless the store where you purchased your product from allows you to have an exchange of defective product within a limited period of time.

I understand the very bad experience. For myself, it was a nightmare! Like you, I said i would not trust Sony anymore. I signed up a new line for Xperia S and just after 3 days, the sign of flaw started to show on my phone. I contacted Sony and my defective phone was in service center. I request Sony to give a new handset replacement but they did not. My new phone was lying in service center for about 1 week. In the end, i thought it did not make sense to sign up for a new phone, but after a few days, i completely coulnd't use the phone, especially when the service center told me that there wasn't any spare parts for Xperia S yet and it might take at least 2 weeks or more to repair.

As i mentioned before, try to contact the store your purchased your phone from, or the mobile carrier or network service provider to see if they can give you a new replacement or do something about it.

Good Luck!

ps: The yellow tint is still an issue of the screen, depends on the severity.

Im really disappointed about sony service. i just bring the xperia s to hong kong customer service and repair the yellow tint problem. The staff of sony tell me that that is normal and can't be fix, what can i do is just accept that! Angry_Face

I replaced my original Xperia S with another just a few days ago. The display on this is considerably better than my first one, but there is still a slight yellow tinge at the bottom of display but no yellow spot this time. There is however a slightly more noticeable yellow tinge running down the left and right hand edge of the display.

I have decided to keep this phone and not exchange it for another, as there is no guarantee that a replacemenwould end up having an all round better display than the one I have now.

I sincerely hope Sony are taking this issue seriously, and if possible rectify this with a firmware update sooner than later.

I have been using my new replacement Xperia S about a week now, after returning the defective Xperia S to my mobile operator.

The issue of the yellow spot on the LCD screen still lingers around. The backlight has to be turned on with 100% brightness.

I tried to take photos but it is very difficult to capture the flaw.

Yellow patches are located along the edges of the screen and also, big yellow spot located just above the capacitive button of the home screen.

Not a good sign for Sony for this to happen on their Xperia 2012 flagship.

I hope Sony will take this problem seriously and provide a good solution to their customers.

Otherwise, it's a shame for me to convince my friends how good Xperia S is while they ask me, "Why are there yellow patches on the screen?" That would be disasterous.

I had sent the handset to the service center in 23/03/2012. They called me yesterday and said that they are waiting for the spare part to fix it. The spare part will be arrive some where about this few days. I will update you guys once i have my handset repaired.
