Forget Jellybean, give us Stable KITKAT, and leave it to custom ROM devs. Cuz they can make stable ROMs than you.. Your priority is only for your latest devices. Even Xperia Z is now being unprioritized.. Kinda..

Sony, slowest software Development.

Hi guys,

As most of you I was waiting for the update for a long time now. Not that the old firmware was bad, but I had a couple of issues with the phone that were annoying a lot. Firs of al everytime after I listen to music with the headset and I unplug the I had to plug the jack again play and stop the music and unplug to avoid this. And thi sis pretty much every day.

The other one was that I can't move apps to the external SD card. I had to root the phone and use another app to basically lie the phone so I cane store some large +1Gb apps on the external SD.

I got tired of waiting since my sutomization number was 1268-8838 and there wer no 4.3 updates of any kind for it. So I decided to change my customization number with such that I will get the latest 9.2.A.1.210 firmware. I decided to change to the Hongkong 1268-7821 cust num. I would not recomed it for non Chinise speaking people. After the update is started in Chinise language and it took me a while to slect the correct language.
However here is a link with tutorial how you can do it if you are tired of waiting too http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/guide-download-firmware-customization-t2311211

About the update. So far I am almost happy with it. The laudspeaker bug that I had and was annoying the crap out of me is gone. This is the big win! Also the battery life is significantly improved for me. I don't know how other phones are behaving but mine was draining its battery like mad when it is connected to wi-fi. If I do not connect it to wi-fi it lasts more than 5 days. If I connect it it goes for less than 24 hours. I tried all kinds of settings and disabling to unnecesary processes and all, but it look slike that ther always was something that was working hard when connected to high speed interned and it was drainig the juice out of the phone. Now with the 4.3 update it behaves much better. There is no big difference between battry usage with or without wi-fi. This is another big win! The external SD issue thought is still here. It looks like Sony won't fix that and this is just stupid!

The biggest drawbag for now is the camera. Firsr in auto mode the maximum resolution is 9 Mega pixels. Why the **bleep**? In manual mode I can selec 13M, but then I don't have both buttons for taking picture or starting video as before. I have to manually switch between picture and video mode. Again, why the **bleep**? And the last but not least one is the so famous by now video camera bug. For thouse of you who are not fammiliar with it, it is the auto-focus  noise that is being recoded over the videos.

SO this is from me guys. I will use it like this for a few weeks and if I decide that some of the new bugs are worse than the old ones I might revert to the old firmware. If I do that I will let you know about the development.

Best Regards,

Kris

Hi Kris,

regarding camera resolution, this is because the superior auto mode shoots images with 16:9 aspect ratio, because this is the aspect ratio of the XV's screen and of most computer screens and TV sets. So, since it's likely that you will look at your pictures on one of these devices, it makes sense to take pictures directly with that aspect ratio.

The native resolution of the sensor, though, is 13mp in 4:3 aspect ratio. This means that the 9mp mode is 9mp because it just *discards* a portion of the image, namely two horizontal bands in the upper and lower parts of the frame, to achieve the 16:9 aspect ratio, but the image quality is the same, because the image is taken with the native sensor resolution anyway.

That said, I understand that some people might prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio (I don't use it anymore, I've always hated it, coming from the film-camera age where the standard aspect ratio was 3:2 I never liked the almost-square format of 4:3 pictures, and I think that images shot in 16:9 are more pleasant and allow for more interesting composition), but Sony probably decided to remove that option in a mode which is designed to have the minimum number of options, if not no options at all.

@andysoft

If you check with xperia update checker, you will notice that many countries (I'd even say most of the countries) are still stuck with 4.1.2, and this includes important countries like Germany and others.

My opinion is that Sony is aware of the issues with the 4.3 firmware and dares not release globally a firmware with so many problems. That's why so many countries are still with android 4.1.

My hope is that Sony is actively working to create a 4.3 release with no bugs, and at that point they'll release it globally. I can't think of a better reason, actually.

Yet, there's no evidence of this. As I have already complained, we're left on our own without any official statement as to if and when we'll receive the 4.3 update, and I'm quite upset and puzzled by this behaviour.
