Hi Minameaar,

Yes, it's very difficult knowing which phone brand to go with. It's not just a case of deciding on the device itself when making a purchase. It's also necessary to know what standard of service to expect from the brand names. I would never purchase another device from Samsung, for example. Anyway, back to the theme of this thread. I'm now beginning to think I'm better off staying with Android 4.1.2 on my Xperia SP. Just wish I could do something to get 'Trim' without having to resort to rooting.

If you can afford it, get one of the flagship devices - you tend to get better service and quicker updates. Google's brand's (Nexus and Motorola) are a good bet for decent support. Google have a vested interest in making Android in general as reliable and stable a platform as possible and are pretty keen to get the latest and greatest onto as many devices as possible. The emphasis of KitKat is to make it run decently on old and lower spec devices, which is really encouraging. It's a shame the other big companies are more into rehashing old stuff to turn a quick buck.

As for Trim - if you want it, go ahead and upgrade. .201 hasn't killed my phone - it performs pretty much as it did with 4.1.2. If you're careful and take a backup of the old firmware, you can easily downgrade if it goes t1ts.

Hi All,

Last week I bought my Xperia SP, and did a successful upgrade to the latest version: 4.3, build 12.1.A.1.201

When calling, the contact picture show the default - no picture - instead of pictures set for the specified contact person.

While browsing contacts it shows the pictures. Altough I set the picture again, nothing changed.

I have deleted all contoacts on SIM, and disabled it in the address book, nothing changed.

I hope you have an idea.

Regards,

Ge

believe you did a big mistake upgrading your phone to 4.3

Just search a little in this forum to see thousands of reports that this update destroyed completely this phone. I struggled a lot to fix it but without any success, i finally downgraded to 4.1.2 and the phone started to work like a charm just like before. Do a downgrade seriously only this will fix any problems with 4.3 version.

Well done SONY excellent update... pfff Jesus Christ !

Ok, just for balance - I upgraded my phone some weeks ago and it's fine.

Hi blackbox,

And that's the problem, isn't it? Even if two devices are, on the face of it, identical, they may behave differently with exactly the same version of the Android OS! That's a ridiculous state of affairs. Now, just in case anyone thinks I'm a secret iPhone user, nothing could be further from the truth. As was said above, from now on, I will go with Google branded products. And I might just stick with 4.1.2 on my Xperia SP to play safe.

Yep, it does seem a particularly Android thing. If you shop around for another phone, you'll find much the same thing - some with a good experience, and a fair number of people reporting similar buggy behaviour. Just pick any recent phone and check out the Amazon reviews. Hopefully it gets better as Android matures.

I imagine iOS has an easier time as there's a much smaller range of target hardware. The app market is much more tightly regulated too.

Now this is getting ridiculous.... nearly May and still nowt for UK unbranded... think this is the last time I buy anything Sony..... they are driving customers away, are they not aware.

I would imagine that Sony Mobile has a major dilemma on its plate right now. On the one hand, they will be aware that customers are chomping at the bit to get their hands on 4.3 but they also know that many of their customers are having major problems with 4.3. Next time, it will be a Google device for me. I've had enough of this shambolic update process!

I think all Android devices have their share of bugs, but the old SP seems pretty poor. The upgrade worked quite well for me at the start, but three weeks on it's running out of RAM and crashing on a regular basis. I don't remember once having to take the back off my old Desire S and hard reboot - it's every couple of days with this thing. Who can be bothered to reinstall the firmware (and all your apps) every 3 weeks?

I see the LG G2 has taken a major price cut in the UK (probably because it's not sold that well - it was really pricey when it came out). It's on KitKat already. Tempting.
