Xperia S USB connectivity Problems after latest software update

I wanted to transfer some mp3 files to my My Xperia S via USB. However after the software update PC companion can't connect to my phone. When trying to detect the phone it says installing Phone but after 2 seconds i get the message PC companion is unable to connect to the phone.

Also my computer says it detects an USB-device but cannot recognize it.

So now i cannot transfer files or make a backup.
Is this due to the update and can i do something to make this work?

Before the update everything was working fine.

PC is Windows Vista.
Phone is Xperia S
Android 4.1.2
Build 6.2.B.1.96

PC companion is the latest version.

Thanks,

Tom

EDIT: Just tried on a Windows 7 PC but has the same issue.

Have you tried this, open Device Manager on your computer to reinstall the driver for your device while your device is connected with your PC via a USB cable.

Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 users

To open Device manager on your computer

Click on the Start button.
In the Search box, type device manager, and then press enter.

Microsoft Windows 8 users

To open Device manager on your computer

Click the Desktop Tile to open the Desktop.
Click >> at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Select Control Panel from the Menu.
Select Device Manager from the list of control panel items.
Note: If you do not see the screen with the Device Manager option, click the View by drop-down menu and select Small icons.

Microsoft Windows XP and 2000 users

To open Device manager on your computer

On the desktop, right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.
In the Hardware, tab click the Device Manager button.

To reinstall the drivers for your device

Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB section) of the Device Manager window.
Look for an MTP Device: Media Device, Unknown Device or any other reference to your phone. Click on this entry and choose "Uninstall" whilst leaving the device connected.
Wait a few minutes, and the computer will reinstall the drivers for the device.
Now, the phone is accessible via Computer/My Computer on your computer.

This doesn't work either.
After i uninstall the Unknown Device and wait for a moment it says that it installed drivers, but then it just says it doesn't recognise the usb device.

To see if this is a problem with MTP or a connectivity problem you could try transferring some files using ADB. What happens if you enable USB debugging and try to access the phone and transfer files using MyPhoneExplorer (www.fjosoft.at)? That software uses ADB.

Found out what the problem was.
Wasn't actually a sofware problem but a faulty usb-cable.

Wich was weird because it would charge normally and stuff.

But i used a cable from a friend and it worked, so i bought a new usb-cable and the phone got detected just fine.

Sorry for wasting your time and thanks for trying to help.
Feel a bit silly now Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue

Thanks, Tom
