I wanted to transfer some mp3 files to my My Xperia S via USB. However after the software update PC companion can't connect to my phone. When trying to detect the phone it says installing Phone but after 2 seconds i get the message PC companion is unable to connect to the phone.
Also my computer says it detects an USB-device but cannot recognize it.
So now i cannot transfer files or make a backup.
Is this due to the update and can i do something to make this work?
Before the update everything was working fine.
PC is Windows Vista.
Phone is Xperia S
Android 4.1.2
Build 6.2.B.1.96
PC companion is the latest version.
Thanks,
Tom
EDIT: Just tried on a Windows 7 PC but has the same issue.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Found out what the problem was.
Wasn't actually a sofware problem but a faulty usb-cable.
Wich was weird because it would charge normally and stuff.
But i used a cable from a friend and it worked, so i bought a new usb-cable and the phone got detected just fine.
Sorry for wasting your time and thanks for trying to help.
Feel a bit silly now
Thanks, Tom
Uninstall PCC > reinstall PCC, install JAVA

restart your PC > connect your phone
Reinstalled PC Companion, installed latest Java, rebooted the computer but the problem is still there.
Also tried different USB-port and rebooted the phone.
Why you break my phone Sony updates?
Maybe its that the 4.1.2 update screwed up my USB drivers on my phone?
And is it possible to reinstall those drivers?
Try a different computer

I tried on 3 computers, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
All have the same problem.
Was looking on the internet for similar problems and solutions.
So i tried different usb debug apps and messed with some of the settings and looked into downloading drivers.
I noticed that my "mtp extention service" was not on.
And stumbled onto an "usb mode switcher"-app that changes usb mode from mtp to mass storage and vice versa.
Didnt seem to work at first but after switching back and forth a few times and rebooting my phone it suddenly connected to my pc again and began installing apropriate drivers onto the pc. I could do everything i could normally do.
After disconnecting the USB cable and reconnecting to check if the problem was solved it didn't recognise my phone again and the problem is still there.
Enable USB debugging mode and connect again.

Yeah already tried all those things..
Will not work..
You could uninstall PCC,reinstall it and reconnect the phone.
