Earpiece Call Volume and Weird characters in lock screen

So my dad has an Xperia Advance (US edition of Xperia Go) and he is mostly happy with it... but lately he have faced a couple of issues...

1) The earpiece sounds extremely low it is really hard to hear anything the other end of the call says... it also had low volume when talking but I fixed this by turning off the Noise Reduction feature.

The thing is that when testing the Earpiece with the Service Test it sounds OK... so it seems like a software problem. He has to call with Speaker on all the time. Fixed by starting in Safe Mode and resetting normally

2) Lately a strange group of letters appeared under the date on his lockscreen and I cant find a way to delete them. Please see the screenshot.

The weird characters appeared suddenly for no reason and it is not related to any email, name, words, date, or anything else I can think of...

1) Do you experience the same problem if you start the phone in safe mode?

2) Go to settings > security > Owner info. Remove the characters and unmark 'show owner info on lock screen'.
