Xperia L1 uses SwiftKey as its pre-installed keyboard app and unfortunately it does not support the t9 layout you are after. I recommend that you download a different keyboard app from Google Play Store that has support for this layout.

To change what keyboard you currently have active after you have downloaded a new one, go to: Settings > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard.
