does Tethering via USB keep your data private

Hi

I've managed to connect my Sony Xperia L1 to my Samsung tablet via Bluetooth, but I am worried that others around me could log into one of my devices and either use the data passing between the 2 devises or just sit and monitor what I'm doing.

I'm not using my data for anything illegal just trying to use the 22gbs of data alotted to my monthly account by 02 as I usually have GBs left over at the end of the month and its a shame to waiste it. They allow Tethering so there's no problem there.

I wanted to know if I use a USB cable between the 2 devices will this prevent any hackers getting hold of my data. Also, do I need to enable the Wifi connection on the Samsung tablet for the USB connection to work?

Thanks a lot.

This isn't the L1 forum, it's for the Xperia 1, but to answer your question, just use the wifi hotspot on the phone, and let the tablet connect to your phone via wifi, it should have an automatic password, and it should be good enough.

As to hackers...this isn't hollywood, so I really wouldn't bother with thoughts like that. Grinning_Face_with_smiling_Eyes

This link will show you how to set it up, with a password..make it visible when the tablet conects, then after that, make it non discoverable...as long as you have a decent password, you'll be fine.!  Thumbs_up

Thanks for the reply.

I already knew about the 'Hotspot' connection but wanted to know if it's possible to connect the phone and tablet together via a USB cable to transfer data from one to the other. I also know you can transfer files between the Sony and the Samsung tablet using this method, but not the data. No password would be needed and completely private.

Thanks again for your help.
