What USB device is compatible with blu-ray player

I have bought the Sony BDP - S370 blu-ray player for the missus birthday. It says that a USB device can be connected to it to watch films or listen to music. Does that mean i can connect a external hard drive storage device with films on it, and if so which drive should i use?

Some people have said you have to format the drives to FAT32 for use with the Sony PS3, does that mean the same for this blu-ray player

I have been watching a few on ebay.

Please help if you can

Hi TK-Trooper

I own the same BR player. It has TWO USB ports. One in the front and one in the back. The second one serves as conn. port to the home LAN wireless ! You have to purchase the feature separetly. Look for the item UWA-BR100 and simply attach it in the back of the player. It will connect you to the internet and you'll be able to watch additional contains. You"re asking here about the first USB conn, in the front. Your idea is very interesting. My self looking for a way to stream videos from the PC trough the home LAN at this moment.

When i bought the player, in the store the merchant explained to me about this USB port. He told me that he tryied to connect to it a disk-on key containing video files and it played it when the video file were up to 4 GB.

My self achieved play backs from disk-on-key  with a size of 1.2 GB only, until this moment.

Hi All

Yes you can use a USB mass storage via the USB port, this does have to be configured using FAT, however if you are using a Hard Drive it will have to be a powered drive as the USB port does not have enough power to do so.
