Accessing BBC IPLAYER via Ethernet cable

I have purchased a 15 metre Cat5e shielded network cable to connect my broadband router to my HDR (SVR-HDT500) to access BBC iPlayer. I can access it successfully but the picture quality is not great - it's a bit soft, not as sharp as usual picture when I watch ordinary tv or recorded programmes. Would a Cat6 cable have given a sharper picture? Can anyone help?

Hi,

i believe that cat5e is more than up to the job and any further expense on higher cable is fruitless.

HI there

BBC do not broadcast HD quality video via the connected red button iplayer that is available. I have the same issue as well (same model), the video quality is not the best, watchable, but thats about it really. Cat6 ethernet will not fix the problem.

Cat5e STP is rated upto 1.0 gigabits per sec (Cat6 = 10gbps). That is not the bottleneck. If there was any bottleneck, it would be your phoneline that connects to your ISP.

Oh I forgot to add, I believe that the speed of the network port at the back of your PVR is 100mbps.

Hope that helps you.
