Hi community,
I'd need some clarifications on my WH-1000XM3 headphones. When I call someone using standard calls the volume of my voice is quite low to the person I'm calling, they can barely hear me.
Second, when I need to use the microphone for audio recordings (i.e. WhatsApp) the microphone of the headphones is not used at all. Instead, the mic from my Huawei P20 lite is used. Why is this happening? Has someone the same problems as me? I've seen a post on Reddit that suggest to do a factory reset of the headphones by pressing simultaneously both the NC/Ambient and the power buttons until the blue light blinks 4 times.
Thank you very much,
Francesco
Hi Francesco,
Welcome to the community.
I'll look into this for you and see if I can find out. Someone else in the community may be able to advise in the meantime.
Thanks,
Pascale
Hi franpalma
Has the volume of your voice on calls gotten lower with time or is it like this since day 1?
It's always recommended to update the headphones: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wh-1000xm3/downl...
And you can find the steps to reset the headphones here: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wh1000xm3/v1/en/contents/TP0001703081.html

I am having the same problem. Every single time I call using this headphones I have to use my phone instead, because the other person can barely hear me.
This model is sooooo bad.
Dear Win_88,
yes, unfortunately it's been like this since day 1. Today I could manage to use the headphones for a standard phone call with my dad, yet with other people I'm still having problems. However, this issue is always present when using whatsapp/telegram calls with other people (even though when I select Bluetooth as speaker). Have you heard anything from other customer, or from other threads?
Any help would be very much appreciated, it's been a very expensive product and I think it's right to demand a well-functioning microphone. Are any software updates planned to deal with this?
Best regards,
Francesco
By the way, I've already performed the reset suggested in your second link of your post and I'm still having issues.
Hello, I see you have not answered my replies to this comments for a couple of weeks. As I said, I already have the firmware version 4.1.1 installed and I've already performed a reset to my device.
It's surprising that Sony has not released a software update to fix these problems since the 4.1.1 in January (as you can see other people have replied here with the same issue).
Honestly I think it's ridiculous that a 300€ device cannot have integrated a decent microphone to allow the user to handle simple calls.
I really hope to get an answer back or I'll have to give back my device and posting bad feddback in the biggest online platform.
Kind regards,
Francesco
UPDATE: I also bought the new WF 1000 XM3, and it suffers exactly the same problem.
So basically I have spent 500 euros in the headphones with a microphone quality worse than others I have that costs 10 euros.
This lets me think that SONY bought Youtubers to promote that they are the best.
I have also the same issue with my wf-1000xm3 i searched a oot on google but didn't find any solution for this. Please tell me if any solution available.
