Use a good HDMI cable and a working source of an HDMI signal.

Make sure the cable is fully pushed in at both ends.

Thanks for help. Done all that several times with different leads of various quality. Nothing happening. ALL of the leads used work in the 3 other tv's in the house.

Conversely, is this a problem with each and every HDMI input on the set, or just one of them?

Either way, it seems like the set is faulty and needs a repair, but this will be much more strongly indicated, and more difficult for Sony or a dealer to argue against, if it is all of them.

Sounds like a faulty board then (at best). You’ll need to get on to Sony to come and fix it.

I fear that you are right. During the engineer's last visit he fitted a new board which seemed to work fine for 5 minutes. It was when I turned on the tv the next day all hdmi inputs seemed to fail.

Probably a faulty board he didn’t change destroying the new HDMI board with overvoltages, or something similar 😱
