Captions on TV

I bought a 48" OLED in the hope that the TV would caption all content live live captions on google but I cannot get it to work, the captions setting are set to on but nothing happens. Being hard of hearing made this a necessity.

Hi @stmarti9966

"would caption all content live live captions on google"

Would you please explain exactly what these 'captions' are and how they relate to Google. Do you mean Subtitles?

The full model number of your TV would help as all Sony TVs are different depending on their series and year of manufacture. The model number will start with KD- or XR-.

My TV is the KD48A9.

In the Settings of the TV under Device settings > Accessibility > Subtitle settings > Streaming and other content > Display is set to ON but I'm not sure what 'other content' means, I had hoped it meant anything from other inputs ie. Satellite box mainly through the HDMI

Hi @stmarti9966

When you connect anything through a HDMI input then you need to turn on Subtitles on that device, not on the TV. So you need to turn on Subtitles on your Satellite box.

Hi

Thanks

I always have the subtitles on on the Sky box which works as they should  through the box but it was the streaming and other content I was querying

Hi @stmarti9966

Each streaming App has its own method of not only turning on Subtitles but also to choose a language. The TV hosts the Apps only, and they are not controlled by the TV.

If you would to tell us which streaming app you are referring to (each one can be different) then I'm sure we could provide you with the steps to turn on Subtitles. Once they are turned on, they remain turned on until the TV is reset, which is virtually never.

Just one example, Disney+. Once you are watching a programme, press direction up twice and it highlights a small keyboard in the top right hand corner. Press select and turn on Subtitle etc.

Hi SonyUser30Yrs

I have the subtitles on all the streaming channels etc. I just thought it might work like the live captions on Android whereas the captions come up in a box, usually over the top over the streaming subtitles. Like having live subtitles for any content on the TV, even content with no subtitles.

It's about time TVs were able to do this by now without broadcasters having to supply the subtitles.
