2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I thought the next release was 24th December.

The Sony blurb says 'by' 24th of December but chances are that it will be rolled out then so we all have non working tellies for Christmas Day. 🙂

Hello All

Currently a new firmware release (V2637) is being rolled out to some EU countries.

Note: THIS IS NOT FOR UK

Below are the direct links for the countries/languages that are already live for the 4K TV range.  Please check the support pages for your country and model for the correct firmware. The remaining countries/ languages are being worked on. Currently this firmware is only available via support pages but will be rolled out to TVs soon.

It seems, yet again, that the UK is the poor relation in the Sony empire. Perhaps they should have stuck to oil!

After two weeks of emails and phonecalls to JL I'm just not getting anywhere.

Ive told them about all the issues,  sent links to this forum,  mentioned its 'not as described',  mentioned its 'not fit for purpose',  mentioned the Sale Of Goods Act,  mentioned their 90 day refund policy etc etc

As things stand as of this morning they want to take it away for a repair/inspection.   Ive told them all I want is a refund - same as they have done for other people.

Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of buying from JL because of their wonderful '90 day return policy'

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do next.

I'm stuggling with Jl too they have sent a tech person who just checked that I had plugged everything in properly the said he thinks it's a hardware fault and has said a sony engineer will need to come and look at it. We all know it's the underpowered proccesor and poor sony implementation of the android system . But hay ho I will play the little dance with them.then remind them the date I asked them.to.replace the tv was 2 months ago. Sent from my Samsung device

I wonder if the problem is that stores like JL just can't grasp the concept that a major manufacturer like Sony would sell a product with some of the inportant advertised features non-functional. At present no amount of repairs or visits from Sony engineers will get the HDD function working.

There's no Changelist on the website Qinnicus, do you or anyone here know what that new FW covers?

I'm in Ireland but want to keep iPlayer

@EggDublin Ive asked before i posted the info, and currently awaiting a reply.  However, most times Sony is very generic in its changelog.  If you wish to hold off this update until others have done so...  It might be wise to disable the auto download on the TV - as eventually it will be rolled out.
