2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

I am really pleased with my TV the only thing outstanding to resolve is this :-https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/itv-ch-grayed-out-on-itv-hub/td-p/2144311

Not sure why I have a great set and others haven't?

I for one thank Sony for the good work in updating the software.

No I don't work for them just paid hard cash and got value for money.

Just had an email from mr depauws office,  apparently they are looking into giving me a refund but won't guarantee a full refund.

What????  I have not had a working tv since purchase last June so won't be accepting anything other than a full refund.

"Since the last FEB update, the standard video player doesn't work properly anymore. It will stretch the image vertically, so black lines in original file on top and bottom of image won't show. Aspect ratio is not adjustable via remote or settings. I tried playback via VLC, but then the image stutters."

This was driving me nuts so I've searched for a fix, and I've found one!

Start playing a video on the stock player, then go to the action menu. In the video section choose "Fit Screen" (if it says "Expand" you'll have to choose that first). Then Action menu, Video section choose "Information", press the back button and it should be in the correct ratio!

Great find, @TWLeebo, and I am lost in admiration for your persistence and your acumen.

But it is mark of just how desperate the situation with these TVs remains that finding a seven-step fix for a problem that shouldn't even be there is a cause for general rejoicing, instead of grave dissatisfaction that it is even necessary.

Hello, can anybody confirm after the last update that they have lost 5.1 audio in Netflix?

I no no longer see the 5.1 option described when browsing a title, no longer see it under audio settings when playing anything and also don't get througput of 5.1 either to my amp - It only comes as 2.0.

Thanks

Just out of interest, has anyone with a 4K version of those had an update which enables HDR? Was reading earlier that Sony were going to enable a OTA update at some point to some models.

So @Jimmyjamh you are returning your working TV because other are complaining about it? You have very good retailer in UK, in Italy no one would have accepted such return...

We have very good consumer laws in the UK,and the means to enforce them.

But perhaps in Italy, if there is a model of car known to have faulty brakes, and you have this model, you have to wait until your brakes fail, and you drive off a mountain road perhaps, before you can get the car replaced?

That's a good analogy. John Lewis have been very good. The technical support contacted me after I sent an email to customer services voicing my concerns. I'm genuinely torn now between keeping it or returning it for a Panasonic.

@Jimmyjamh thanks for the  reply. I just tried captain America and still stereo. Nothing has changed in my physical setup. Can you confirm if you see the 5.1 audio detailed in the description as it used to be? I see HD logo on mine read that's it.
